General information

Providing information for schools and the public is one of the main pillars in the operation of the Natural history museum of Kópavogur. This is achieved mainly through exhibition of items, either owned by the museum or loaned for this purpose. The main exhibition is rather stable but occasionally smaller events, generally focusing on special subjects, are put on display.

In addition to conventional exhibitions, introductional meetings and cross platform events with the other Cultural houses, regularly take place. This may involve series of lectures ranging from gardening to geology, artistic events, programs for kids and so on.

Questions may often arise about things we encounter in our environment. Such questions are very welcome and so are items that our guests may not be familiar with. That may include bugs and plants, unfamiliar stones, strange bones and so on. Our staff will do their best to answer those questions and identify your unknown item or animal, all free of charge.
